Planning for Your Future and Your Philanthropy: Gift Annuities
Though Jack Ulman has been retired from teaching for 25 years, he vividly
recalls his students experiencing the forest for the first time. "In
addition to teaching English, I was also the guidance counselor. We took
field trips to Holden Arboretum, and I noticed how the kids with
disciplinary problems were fascinated and engaged. The docents were
excellent— it was a great way to learn about nature."
When Jack retired, he wanted to support his favorite organizations, and
learned about charitable gift annuities. Through his
gift, Jack receives fixed annuity payouts for life; Holden Forests &
Gardens will receive the remainder. Jack is a member of the HF&G
President's Society, and he wants people to know that this kind of
donation is not just for the wealthy, "As a child I recall accompanying my
mother, a nurse, on a trip to the museum to buy a donor brick. We had
modest means; at the time I knew this was a sacrifice but important to do.
Charitable gift annuities are a way I can make a difference while
protecting my future."
An avid photographer, Jack still heads to the Holden Arboretum to capture
the wonder of plants and trees each season. He hopes his support of
HF&G's outreach and experiences spark a lifelong connection to the
natural world for others.
